PGA Merchandising Practice Test

Choosing seasonal dating for a holiday-themed product is appropriate because this method specifically aligns with the timing and market demand of seasonal items. Seasonal dating means planning the introduction and duration of a product's availability based on specific holiday or seasonal events.

For holiday-themed products, it's crucial to offer them in advance of the holiday to maximize sales potential. This approach allows retailers to take advantage of consumer anticipation and enthusiasm that builds as the holiday approaches. By focusing on seasonal dating, businesses can effectively manage inventory, ensuring that products are available at the right time without overstocking or running out of popular items.

In contrast, core merchandise typically refers to items that are sold continuously throughout the year and would not be suitable for a holiday-centric strategy. Fringe products are often niche items that may not have widespread appeal, and using advance dating can lead to products being available too early or too late for the specific holiday timeline. Thus, seasonal dating is the most strategic choice for holiday products, as it is designed to capitalize on the seasonal nature of the item.
